Goals as MCTM Officer
Teachers in Minnesota consistently have been leaders in applying innovative ideas in mathematics classrooms across the state. MCTM has dependably been there for teachers to support mathematics teaching reform. As MCTM moves forward those involved in this organization need to continue to reach out to young professionals finding ways to support excellence in teaching and making MCTM relevant to their professional lives. The MCTM board working together can find creative ways to interact with teachers in their first 5 years of teaching. These efforts should take advantage of the new technologies but also use the strength and knowledge of its long time members and experienced teachers from throughout the state. Being a member of MCTM for quite a long time, I have benefited from meeting teachers throughout the state at conferences and by serving on the board. I have always appreciated the opportunity to share my ideas at state conferences. Serving once more on the board is a way for me to give back to an organization that has been important to my professional journey.

  • Lead author on RNP fraction lessons for building Initial Fraction Ideas and Fraction and Decimal operations. Curriculum used throughout the state to support students in grades 3-5 to develop a rich understanding of rational numbers.

Goals as MCTM Officer
MCTM was has been in existence since 1950, supporting mathematics teaching and learning. The networks available to mathematics teachers through social media provide a level of support and depth of learning that didn’t exist 10 years ago.

My goals as president include building on the long history of the organization while also supporting new structures and initiatives that will respond to current and future needs of members. In the position of president, I would ask the board to review programs and initiatives in place and identify new ideas that support the mission. Some areas of inquiry would include: professional development opportunities, communication and membership support, organizational financial stability, and committee structures and member involvement.
