Goals as MCTM Officer
Collaboration and professional development would be two major goals of mine as an MCTM Director. I continue to find that I have the most positive impact on my students’ learning when I have collaborated in meaningful and open ways with other teachers and education professionals. Through recent experiences, such as participating in the West Metro Leadership Academy, I have learned how to facilitate these types of experiences for teachers through active and engaging professional development. My mission as a math teacher has been to create a dynamic, culturally responsive educational experience that will open doorways for all students to mathematical concepts and tools while activating growth mindsets and building 21st century skills. I have been working toward this by reaching out to other educators in my district, former colleagues, presenters I’ve met at MCTM and NCTM conferences, and others in online forums to broaden my knowledge base and tool kit. As an educator I see being a learner as a necessity to achieve the best outcomes for all students. Being a board member of MCTM would allow me to facilitate this intentional collaboration in ways that excite and energize our community. I would seek to ignite passion and creativity through experiences that will simultaneously support teachers in achieving their missions and the mission of MCTM.

Goals as MCTM Officer
Growing up in Ohio, beginning my math teaching career in Texas and now having spent the last eight years teaching in Minnesota has helped shape the type of leader I have become and continue to strive to be. If elected I plan to use my various teaching experiences and leadership roles in elementary and middle school to connect with other math educators within region 6 that encompass twenty-seven different districts. As a region director my top three goals would be to help increase membership, enhance the communication efforts between buildings and districts and build a professional support system to continue to improve mathematics instruction.
