A PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL PARAPROFESSIONALS AND TEACHERS
Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to study the teaching of elementary and middle school mathematics and have someone else pay the tuition and fees. You will enjoy seven days of study which will focus on the paraprofessional/teacher role in the mathematics classroom. The course content will directly relate to the mathematics curriculum currently taught in elementary and middle classrooms, and will provide the paraprofessional/teacher with appropriate methods of mathematical instruction. Special education paraprofessionals and teachers are also encouraged to apply. There are no prerequisites for this workshop.
OBJECTIVES: The course’s objectives are:
- To provide the paraprofessional/teacher with a complete understanding of the mathematical content found in the elementary and middle school curriculum.
- To model the teaching of mathematics using manipulatives to enhance both understanding and learning.
- To model instructional practices that will allow the paraprofessional to better serve their students and assist the classroom teacher.
- To provide instruction and assessment consistent with the Minnesota Graduation Rules.
- To provide instructional models using manipulatives for the basic operations of addtion, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
