I Despise the MN State Fair and Yet I Go Each Year
by Laura Wagenman, MCTM President
One of the most un-Minnesotan things about me is that I despise the Minnesota State Fair. I went one time as a kid and another time as an adult when I moved back from California and vowed I would never, EVER go again.
And yet, this August will be my 10th consecutive year going. The only thing that can get me to the state fair is my love for Math-on-a Stick.
Below are 10 reasons why you should sign up to volunteer and join us this summer.
- Location – it’s in the northeast corner of the fair off of Snelling Avenue. On
ce you enter, it’s a short walk.
- Trees & shade surround us.
- It’s relatively calm and quiet compared to the rest of the fair.
- You get to learn how others use math in their lives.
- Math t-shirts are welcomed and appreciated!
- There is time to talk about math with friends.
- Food and fun new drinks are just steps away.
- Listening to others’ thoughts & experiences about math and play helps me be more creative.
- Joy in meeting new people who share a passion for math.
- There is ALWAYS time to PLAY!!
