For the Love of MATH: Reflections on the MCTM Conference in Duluth

by Lori Harris, Outgoing Region 6 Director

The recent Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) conference in Duluth was nothing short of inspiring. Nearly 900 passionate educators from across the state came together to share, learn, and celebrate mathematics education. There’s something truly powerful about being in a space filled with people who all share a common mission: to improve the learning and achievement of mathematics for all students.

If you’ve never attended the MCTM conference in Duluth, I encourage you to consider joining next year. It’s an energizing professional experience that will leave you both motivated and connected.

Top Reasons to Attend the MCTM Conference:

  • Inspiring keynote speakers who remind us why we do this important work

  • Engaging conversations with fellow math educators who challenge and support your thinking

  • A wide variety of sessions led by knowledgeable, passionate presenters

  • Vendors and exhibitors offering resources that meet real classroom and district needs

  • Opportunities to reconnect with math colleagues and friends from around the state

  • And, for one lucky couple, it was even the place where they met—six years later, they’re happily married and still attending together!

My humble advice? Get involved. Whether it’s attending, presenting, or simply engaging in conversation, you won’t regret taking part. There’s something deeply affirming about talking math with people who just get it.
