Announcement of Elementary Professional Development Fund
The Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) is pleased to announce the creation of a donor-advised fund to support the organization’s ongoing professional learning in mathematics for elementary teachers across the state of Minnesota. The fund, to be administered by the St. Paul Minnesota Foundation, will begin to support programming in 2026.
The donor, a career long member of the organization, in working with MCTM staff indicated being excited to see MCTM enhance its long-term capabilities of supporting elementary teachers in their mathematical practices. As someone who was supported in accessing quality ongoing professional development early in their teaching career, the donor knows what it means to receive critical support at early points of one’s career that increases the confidence to move forward in one’s practice. As the donor stated, “It is my privilege to pay forward to another generation of elementary mathematics teachers across the state.”
The fund supports long term professional activities that spread across a year or more as sustained professional development is so difficult for districts to support when math competes with literacy, science, and social studies. MCTM’s board is in the process of establishing a structure within the organization to plan and support such programming.
