From Standards to Success: Your Guide to the 2025 MCTM Conference
Hello! I’m Becky Rahm, the current Vice President of Middle School for MCTM. As VPs on the board, we’re tasked with planning the exciting 2025 conference. This article marks the beginning of a series where we’ll highlight some key features of what promises to be another fantastic MCTM event.
Our conference theme this year is “From Standards to Success: Creating Pathways for Each and Every Learner.” As many of you may know, new math standards are on the horizon in Minnesota. This conference will play a crucial role in guiding us through the implementation of these new standards, providing valuable insights and practical strategies for educators at all levels.
I’d also like to introduce our keynote speakers. Kicking off the conference will be Howie Hua during Friday’s opening session. If you’re not already following him on social media, now is the time! I had the privilege of hearing him speak twice at the national conference in Chicago, and he offered so many insightful ideas. His dynamic presentation style is sure to inspire our math educators.
For our closing session, we’re thrilled to welcome Latrenda Knighten, the newly inducted president of NCTM. A prolific author, Latrenda brings a wealth of knowledge to share with us. She once said, “My belief in the importance of all students receiving access to high-quality mathematics experiences has been the driving force behind my involvement with advocacy, professional organizations, and professional development throughout my career.” We are excited to have her join us in Minnesota.
The board and conference committee are hard at work planning our Spring Conference in Duluth on April 25-26, with a symposium on April 24. Be sure to mark your calendars and stay tuned next month for the registration link!
