MCTM Board Reflections on the 2022 Spring Conference
Each year at the Spring Conference the MCTM Board has a meeting to close out the year and begin the next. This year was extra special as we finally reunited with all of you after 3 years apart.
Here are the highlights from the Board:
- Spending time with other math educators and networking at sessions. All of the sessions I attended were interactive and collaborative. It made for an engaging experience.
- Connecting and networking with colleagues; Friday night appetizers and networking.
- Being back together. Wonderful learning opportunities.
- My favorite part of the conference was he joy of being back together and the palpable excitement in the room. I missed my Minnesota math friends.
- It was so great to be back in person in Duluth this year! I really enjoyed the opportunity to connect and learn from others face to face this year.
- Informal times to chat with speakers, other members.
- Reuniting couldn’t be more true. I loved seeing faces of people who I haven’t seen in years and to see so many first timers.
- Loved how the speakers connected concepts K through High School – patterns, number sense etc. Connected prior learning to current learning.
- Appreciated the emphasis on engagement and wonder. We need to spark curiosity, allow failure but with hope, give descriptive feedback. Math is a social activity.
- It was so great to see everyone back in person in Duluth. We’re back to a full conference next year – such more learning and so many more connections to come!
- Great to meet in person and do math.
- Seeing teachers excited again after a few years of uncertainties.
- It was fun to connect in person with math teachers about successes, learning and sharing student joy. One of my favorite things was meeting so many first time attendees and new teachers.
- It was nice to finally reconnect with so many old faces, from colleagues, to classmates, to former teachers and professors. It brought me so much joy to see them again!
- I really enjoyed being challenged to think and see in new ways. I hadn’t realized how much I’ve missed learning collaboratively about great math practices.
- Even though I am tired in ways I never knew I could be, it felt rejuvenating to be back around other teachers that are excited about teaching math!
- The best part of the math conference (though the Keynotes are great, speakers are great) are the numerous opportunities designed in for informal networking. My best ideas come from the casual conversations I have on the Harbor Side overlooking the water or in Canal Park at the local restaurants with math teachers & leaders.
- Reinvigorating by being in person and seeing people that I haven’t seen in 2 or more years. Raj did a fabulous job of getting the conference started and getting people excited to engage in the professional learning.
- I enjoyed reconnecting with colleagues. I valued the insight and conversations about current issues at the state level and pathways models at various colleges.
- This conference filled my bucket! This has been a very tough last two years, and this conference definitely was the highlight of my year. An absolutely positive environment and great to problem-solve and network with PASSIONATE professionals. Thank you to the spring conference committee for all of their work and making this possible!
- Loved meeting up with colleagues who have moved to different schools over the years!
- Being back in-person was a great plus. Lots of great networking opportunities.
- Thank you to Math Horizons, Lauren Siegel and Christopher Danielson for designing, creating and donating the Conic Sections to MCTM conference participants. They were an amazing gift that I will enjoy to display and share in my classroom!
