Welcoming MDE Math Specialist Sara Van Der Werf

Sara Van Der Werf has been hired as the Minnesota Department of Education State Math Specialist. Her first big task will be working with MN math educators to review our state math standards. 

Sara worked for 25 years with Minneapolis Public Schools, as a math teacher for grades 7-12 and K-12 district math lead. Most recently, Sara has been an educational consultant working with teachers nationwide. She has led professional development on topics connected to engagement and discourse strategies, working with English language learners, and teaching student reasoning.

Sara was President of MCTM from 2015 to 2017. The MCTM Board is looking forward to partnering with her in this new role.
