That’s a Wrap!
What a conference! Thank you to all who attended live and all who plan to watch at their leisure through March 2022. I want to send a huge thank you to Tracy Zager and Trena Wilkerson for keynotes that were meaningful and responsive to educators in Minnesota. Although I mostly worked behind the scenes to get sessions started and troubleshoot, I had the opportunity to sit in on Dr. Kristopher Childs session, Teaching Mathematics For Social Justice. I highly recommend checking it out. (This session is only available for a limited time) One quote from his session continues to resonate with me, “Are you teaching mathematics in a manner that pleases your soul? Or Are you teaching mathematics in a manner that pleases your student’s soul?” Have you ever asked yourself this question? It reminds me that as teachers, everyday we are in service to our students. How are you positioning your students as thinkers and doers of mathematics?
This also reminds me what an honor it has been to serve as President of MCTM, an organization that strives to “please the souls” of our membership. Coming together as an organization, members have opportunities to share successes/challenges/innovative ideas, learn from each other, and then support each other to take action. It is our members that make this community such an amazing organization. I would not be the educator I am today without my MCTM community. Thank you MCTM! I look forward to growing with you in the years to come!
