MCTM Virtual EdCamp April 2020
On the evenings of April 14-15 and 16 MCTM Board members facilitated Virtual EdCAMP sessions
The sessions were generated by a survey asking educators what was their NUMBER ONE topic or area of concern after beginning distance learning.
Sessions were offered by grade band and were attended by educators K-12, as well as post secondary. We even had a participant from Chicago Area Schools.
Session topics included: On-line instructional strategies; Supporting SPED students; Desmos; Distance Learning Assessments.
If you were unable to join in, the session notes and recordings of some of the zoom conversations are available. Virtual EdCAMP sessions
Feedback from participants:
- We have similar struggles, we are not alone.
- Creativity of educators to meet student learning needs
- Importance of connecting with students even in little ways
- We must go slow to go fast. Resources can be overwhelming, but pick the ones you think will engage students the most.
- Liked the idea of sending students a “check in” survey to see how they are feeling, what they feel up to
- Try a “focus first” folder of “must do”
- Using a code word in our recorded videos
Through these conversations, the MCTM Board members hoped to have created more community and a sense of togetherness as we all navigate these uncertain times. It was their goal to give everyone a chance to voice their successes and struggles and to provide ways for each of our members to continue to grow as educators.
