Math EdCamp January 2020
On a sunny and chilly Saturday morning in January this happened:
Twenty-two educators who enjoy digging into how children learn math gathered to share their experiences and love of learning.
Here are a few reflections from the teachers who gathered at the January MCTM edCamp:
- Inspiring to be with people who love teaching kids.
- Getting to speak with other educators is so uplifting. I enjoy celebrating math learning. I enjoy learning perspectives from across districts and across grade levels.
- Encouraging to hear about the need for supporting all students: high achieving, EL, struggling students
- Helpful to talk to others helpful hints and new ideas and get more than one perspective
- Gained some very helpful resources that I wouldn’t have known about – I can’t wait to share with my site
- There is comfort in knowing others think the same as me – the need to teach kids at their mathematical instructional level which will enhance further learning
- Teach my students where they are at and build from there
- Hearing different perspectives of other ideas and what other districts/teachers are doing
- Hearing ways to encourage students to think differently and to have mathematical conversations with students
- Focus on math talk
- Talking about manipulatives, games, and new tools
- I want kids to grow by hearing each others’ perspectives in my class and I got to do that today with educators
- Good to know I am not the only teacher experiencing the struggles while trying to grow as a teacher
- Adult behaviors and practices need to change to provide children with the best learning experience
- Love discussing math and being with my peeps
- Reminded of so many ideas! I want to keep learning and doing. My plan is to take one thing from our time this morning back to my classroom. I will continue to learn and practice through implementation with my students. My focus will be on small groups.
- Building math educator community through our discussions together.
