What you should know about the 2019 Spring Conference
Maybe you are a veteran and have been coming to the conference for over ten years. Or perhaps you are in your first few years of teaching and are venturing to Duluth for your first MCTM Spring Conference. Wherever you are on that spectrum, here are some things you should know about the Spring Conference 2019.
Registration and Exhibit Hall
Register and pay for the Conference before coming (if you can). It will save you time on Friday morning (or Thursday evening).
When you arrive in Duluth grab your registration materials with your handy dandy paper schedule in the Exhibit Hall. Devour it immediately. Start flipping through and getting excited about all the sessions you can attend in just a couple short days.
Wander around the Exhibit Hall (free candy at many tables) and check out the book sale that raises funds for the MCTM Foundation and the book store.
Friday Morning Keynote
Sit with your Region. There will be balloons to help orient you to the large ballroom. We hope you’ll sit with your region so you can get to know people in your area and your directors can get to know you too.
Grab a cup of coffee or tea and be prepared to laugh, tear up, notice and wonder during Fawn Nguyen’s keynote. She is a stellar teacher and even more wonderful person. Don’t miss this one if you can help it.
Attending Sessions Friday and Saturday
There are nearly 160 sessions to choose from. That makes for some tough calls. Do some research in your booklet. Sometimes it helps to really look all the way to the last sessions on Saturday so you can create a balanced schedule for yourself and really make the most of your time in Duluth.
Workshops are longer sessions meant to be more interactive. Regular sessions are a quick hour, but many presenters also make them interactive as well. Don’t be afraid to switch sessions if you realize it isn’t the right fit for you. This is your conference, you do you.
Did you know that presenters share digital resources online for you to access before and after the conference? Here’s where you can find last years: http://bit.ly/MCTMSessions Soon it will be replaced with this year’s materials. Stay tuned.
Regional Networking Meetings Friday Evening
We need your voice and we want to hear from you. Join us to network, share and give feedback on Friday night.
President’s Reception Friday Night
FREE FOOD!
What more can I say.
But this is also a time to wander around and engage with that speaker you wanted to say thank you to or your high school math teacher you haven’t seen in 20 years. But don’t forget to enjoy the shaved, roasted New York strip steak and butternut squash ravioli.
Saturday’s Ignite Keynote Lunch
You won’t want to miss this chance to see five local leaders give a five minute, passionate ignite talk while you enjoy your lunch. And don’t forget about being present to win the Door Prizes!
