Meet your Regional Directors!

Region 1

Hello – my name is Dave Kennedy and I am in my second year of service as the Region 1 Director for MCTM.  I teach at Saint Peter High School and have been teaching in the district for nearly 30 years. My wife is an art teacher at the same school and I have two daughters, a sophomore and an eighth-grader. I taught in a 7-12 building until our new 9-12 high school opened in the fall of 2017. I have, at some point, taught every math class our district has offered in grades 7-12, except calculus. I have enjoyed this opportunity to work with students of different ages, ability levels, and learning styles.

Areas of continued interest for me are continuing to develop my use of flipped instruction, increasing student engagement in mathematics classes, developing strategies and materials to support EL students, and appropriate uses of technology in classrooms.

I continue to be amazed and grateful for all of the professional development and networking opportunities that MCTM provides and am especially thankful for all of the professional growth experiences that I have been able to take part in at the spring conference in Duluth.

MCTM Region 1 includes the southeastern part of the state. A listing of districts included in Region 1 can be found at http://www.mctm.org/directors.php by clicking the “schools by region” link.

If there is anything that I can do to help support you as a math teacher, please email me at Region1dir@mctm.org.

Region 2

Hello!  I am Bob Foley  and I am the Region 2 director for MCTM.  Region 2 is a large geographic region and includes  school districts in south-western Minnesota from South Dakota / Iowa border over to Fairmont then up a line to include Hutchinson to Litchfield over to the bump of MN on the western border. You can access a list of the school districts in Region 2 from this page http://www.mctm.org/directors.php.

I am currently in my 19th year teaching math. It is my second year in Montevideo. Prior to teaching in Montevideo I had taught in Ortonville. This is my first year on the MCTM Board of Directors and I am enjoying being a part of a group that continues to find ways to connect and support educators of mathematics. If you work in Region 2, please let me know how MCTM can assist you as a teacher of math. You can contact me at region8dir@mctm.org.

Region 7

Hello! My name is Jessica Strom and I am the Region 7 Director for MCTM. Region 7 is a very large geographical region containing the northwest corner of Minnesota from the North Dakota border to Royalton and from the Canadian border to below I-94.

I am currently in my 16th year of teaching mathematics at the Win-E-Mac School, which is a collaboration of small towns where Hwy 2 and Hwy 59 meet. The school is a wonderful small school district, all located in a k-12 building. I teach a variety of classes from 7th through 12th grade math, most often Algebra 1, Algebra 2, College Algebra and Trigonometry. I love how teaching math has changed over the years. I enjoy listening to my students discuss math and watching them discover and explore new concepts.

This is my second year as the Region 7 Director for MCTM. The experience has been very rewarding. Getting to know everyone involved in the organization and having the opportunity to work in my region is a highlight of my career. During my term, my goal is to create a community of collaboration and support in region 7. Keep your eyes open for emails from MCTM letting you know about future opportunities, and please don’t hesitate to contact me if MCTM can do anything to help support you. You can reach me at region7dir@mctm.org.
