MCTM President’s End of Year Reflection
As we near the end of the school year, our thoughts move toward the lake, the 4th of July and time to dig deep into that new learning through professional development. This is a time of reflection and celebration.
As I think about my roles in leadership, including serving you as MCTM President, I reflect on gratitude and trust. This past week, the Spring Conference in Duluth brought almost 1,000 mathematics educators together for learning around “Building an Equitable Community”. I was unable to attend our Spring Conference this year due to a family emergency, but I watched via Twitter how the conference unfolded. I trusted that the details of the conference would be handled with ease and they were.
At this time of transition there are some people I would like to extend my thanks to:
- All of the speakers for the Spring Conference sessions and the members who volunteered for the Delegate Assembly. Volunteers who share both their expertise and time!
- The MCTM Board who are committed to the mission and work tirelessly to support that mission in their communities and on a statewide level.
- Our retiring Communications Editor, Rich Enderton. He has worked in this role for 20 years. If you can imagine the technology changes we’ve experienced in this time, he has led the way for MCTM to support our members and keep us up to date.
- Our retiring Spring Conference Program Chair, Denise Anderson, who has been in the role for 12 years and has been a strong support for the development of a strong Spring Conference.
Another important way to stay engaged in mathematics this August 23rd through September 3rd is to volunteer for a shift at the MN State Fair. It is a FABULOUS event that gives you a chance to be involved with kids and adults exploring mathematics. Have a wonderful Summer and I look forward to seeing you at MCTM events this summer and next year!!
