Goals as MCTM Officer
Being a member of MCTM has been an invaluable source of professional development and collegial support over the years that I have been a math educator in Minnesota. I have particularly appreciated the work MCTM has done in recent years to increase its online presence and to effectively utilize social media platforms to connect Minnesota teachers with one another and with high quality resources for math teaching. My teaching experience first as an elementary teacher and then later as a high school math teacher taught me that everyone benefits when elementary and secondary teachers are connected with one another. My goal as an MCTM officer is to support and facilitate these elementary-secondary connections amongst Minnesota math teachers, both online and in-person. I will also work to promote the excellent professional development opportunities MCTM currently offers, and advocate for additional opportunities that serve the diverse needs of the elementary math teachers in our state.

Goals as MCTM Officer
There is strong research that compels us to focus on early mathematics as this is a strong predictor of later academic success, high school completion and college entrance. If elected, I will work tirelessly to promote elementary mathematics within and outside of the educational community, with a special focus on closing the achievement gap. MCTM has provided me with invaluable support since I first joined over twenty years ago. The professional connections and learning opportunities available through the organization have been amazing. As we grow as an organization, we need to expand the venues for elementary teachers to be connected, supported and inspired and it is just as important for us to work with principals, for they provide instructional leadership for their staff. I look forward to working toward these goals with the MCTM membership.
