MyNCTM is Your NCTM!
A release from NCTM and blog post from Matthew Larson (president). Used with permission.
You know, and we know, that learning, planning, and growing with others is better than doing so in isolation. MyNCTM, just released, is designed to support you in actively doing this with one another.
The MyNCTM space provides teachers, leaders, teacher educators, and researchers with opportunities and support to share, collaborate, and mentor and learn from one another—MyNCTM is about you! So what does it do for you?
MyNCTM brings improved search and filtering features as well as resource libraries that address the concerns we all have experienced when not being able to find the resources we were looking for on nctm.org. Not only will it be easier to find and sort quality NCTM resources that support your work but you will also be able to personalize the resource by adding your own comments and notes, see the comments of others, and store and organize it all online in one central location so that it will always be there for direct access. In addition, you can upload your own favorite materials to share with others, get peer feedback, find materials recommended by others, and work collaboratively to improve our impact.
NCTM is truly a community of professionals committed to improving the teaching and learning of mathematics. MyNCTM will allow you to find, connect, and collaborate with members you know, as well as those you don’t know yet, who share your same interests or face your same challenges so that together you can improve the learning of your students. A member directory will let you set up your own profile (you can create your own privacy settings), display your interests and achievements, and easily connect with friends, colleagues, or mentors. In addition, you will be able to participate in open forum discussions, create or join special interest groups, ask questions of your peers or experts, provide answers, and discuss the hot topics of the day.
While inspired by the vibrant MTBoS community, MyNCTM does not seek to compete, co-opt, or supplant the MTBoS in any way. MyNCTM and the MTBoS complement and intersect with one another. The MTBoS community has provided incredible support to many mathematics teachers, and it will no doubt continue to grow and thrive. We hope MyNCTM expands the reach of the MTBoS voices as it generates and supports an even larger professional community of those engaged in mathematics teaching and learning, and becomes an invaluable resource in our professional lives.
Also, know that MyNCTM will continually evolve, and how it does so is up to you. How you use it as well as your candid feedback will be continually leveraged to optimize and enhance your experience with MyNCTM. NCTM is continually working on its strategic priority of building member value and community to support teachers and increase their impact. So let us know how we’re doing and what we can do better. And if you plan to be at the Regional Conference in Chicago, Innov8 in Las Vegas, or the 2018 Annual Conference in D.C. in April, stop by NCTMCentral and give us your raves and rants, and test-drive what’s new and in the works.
I invite you to be part of MyNCTM and to encourage your colleagues to join in as well. Together we can build a better experience and a stronger community. We are NCTM!
