Jessica Strom
Current Position
I am in my fourteenth year of teaching High School Mathematics at the Win-E-Mac School District, which compromises from 7th grade math to College Algebra and Trigonometry.
Education
I got my undergraduate Mathematics Degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris and my Master’s in Mathematics from Bemidji State University.
Goals as MCTM Officer
There is a missing link between the current research in Mathematics Education and the practice of teaching Mathematics. Many teachers miss out on the updates. We are busy and just trying to plan the next day. I would like to bridge the gap. I would like to establish a way to get the information to all math teachers, not just the ones who belong to MCTM and NCTM. Many math teachers in this region do not get to go to the Spring Conference. It would be great to establish something along those lines, as a cohort, in our area for one day a year (or more). My main goal is to help math teachers to successfully continue to learn and incorporate what they learn into their classrooms.

Involvement in MCTM, NCTM and Mathematics Education
I have presented at the Spring Conference several times. I also present in my area at various workshops. I work extensively with the other teachers in my school district. I also spent a week in Germany sharing my research at a worldwide gathering of Mathematics Education Researchers. Which brings me to my goal of bridging the gap, something I am working with my local co-op to establish.
